The Therapeutic Essential Oil Question.......Again !!!

This question comes up periodically from consumers, typically along the lines of an email we received earlier this week:

"May I know whether the essential oils available for purchase on your website are therapeutic grade or aromatherapy grade?"

And my response……

Basically, in the essential oils industry there are no such grades as "therapeutic" or "aromatherapy," these are terms dreampt up by marketing people or unscrupulous traders that are not scientifically supported or have any support in the commercial essential oil world.

As a consumer you should be asking suppliers about the quality of their essential oils, and the important things to know are the methods of extraction (some methods can contaminate the essential oil), safety information, and the laboratory Certificate of Analysis (CoA) with Lot #. In Malaysia some suppliers will try and pass the MSDS off as a CoA, and you should never accept this.

At Indochine Natural we only import essential oils that have a clearly marked Lot# on the bottle and accompanying CoA, plus an analysis of the allergens for that particular essential oil batch number (we are probably the only company in Malaysia that insists on this). Anyone buying our essential can have this certification on request.

If you would like to know more about the "therapeutic grade" disinformation, there is more available HERE.

The Benefits of Essential Oils

Having worked with essential oils over many years it is very apparent that these are gradually being replaced by synthetics, and this is a pity because people do not realise the benefits of natural essential oils.

The fine, delicate and natural complexity of essential oils cannot be duplicated synthetically with inorganic chemicals. This is the very simple reason that essential oils can effect our moods and emotions and synthetic fragrances do not.

Essential oils work on two levels. Firstly, an essential oil fragrance that you find pleasant and attractive will soothe or stimulate the mind. At the same time, as you inhale the essential oil it, will have a physiological action in your body (anything you inhale will go into your bloodstream).

Certain fragrances will have specific effects.....for example to calm stress and tension, one of the most soothing essential oils is Frankincense (this essential oil has a history going back 5,000 years), and others include Bergamot, Clary Sage, and Lavender.

Our tip then is to switch onto essential oils for mood, romance, uplifting/stimulating, and calming.....but be warned, it is difficult to find the genuine article these days.

Check out our range of essential oils HERE .....all are provided with a Certificate of Analysis on request.

Gingergrass soap

Hi Everyone,

We are really excited with the release this week our new Gingergrass soap. This is a particularly nice morning soap that has an earthy, spicy aroma that can be emotionally uplifting and at the same time calming. A great way to start the day!!!!

As usual with all of our soaps, we superfat  to 7%, which provides a particularly mild and moisturizing soap suitable for all skin types, and especially those with dry skin.

We have some limited numbers in stock now (first in best dressed), and are now taking new orders for this new soap.

Frankincense oil story

Somalian Frankincense Oil

Sereolipi – this means dry river. The land is very arid and bare at this time of year and very little grows.

One of the few plants that survives these conditions is the Boswellia (frankincense) bush.

These are the women who collect the Frankincense Gum to produce the oil.

IMO send an inspector to check the storage facilities and production methods used.

A very trained eye is needed to be able to spot the gum in all these thorns.

The women have to work their way right to the centre of the plant to find the gum.

It is very thorny work!

The sap naturally seeps out of the bark and forms the hard gum.

The frankincense gum is then sorted before being distilled.

Donkeys are the main mode of transport in the area and are used to carry the collected frankincense gum.

The Somalian people are very proud of their frankincense oil and Aromantic are very proud to be able to support them.
