“This term is causing a lot of confusion among consumers. The term “Naturally Derived” means that an ingredient was once part of nature; however, it does not stipulate how far back in the processing chain the ingredient was a whole, natural part of a plant. If we take shampoo and body wash products as an example, many brands now claim that the surfactants (including SLS which is derived from coconut) are naturally or plant derived. These ingredients no longer resemble in any way their original plant form, and in fact may have become chemically contaminated during extraction and processing.
The natural product industry is rampant these days with misleading and false information.
