In our handmade natural soap
we use Eugenia
caryophyllus (Clove) bud oil, an essential oil that has uses dating back
to ancient China and India, and Clove was prominently included in the writings
of Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) who became known as the first herbalist and naturopath of the middle ages. She took a holistic approach
to medicine with a multidimensional approach to body, mind, emotions, and
spirit. However Hildegard's work was lost over the centuries, and has only
recently been rediscovered and Classical Hildegard Medicine is today widely
accepted by many physicians and patients all over the world.
Today,
Clove is still known for its anti-infectious,
analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It's anti-infectious
properties include: anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and scientific
research has widely documented these health benefits (Braz J
Microbiol. 2012 Oct;43(4):1255-60; J Contemp Dent Pract. 2012 Jan
1;13(1):71-4; Mycoses. 2007
Sep;50(5):403-6).
The
Clove fragrance is powerful, sweet-spicy, warm, with fruity top notes. Clove
fragrance has a reputation, now backed by science, for being stimulating, and
is considered by many as an aphrodisiac.
