Face oils have swept into the skin care segment and have changed beauty regimens overnight for a number of very good reasons. First and foremost, face oils are made of all-natural products, and secondly they penetrate skin instantly to provide a soft glow and at the same time moisturisation.

Why are facial oils better than creams? If we examine the ingredients lists of many skin creams we find that these include various waxes with some oils, plus more often than not various synthetic fragrance ingredients and preservatives. While waxes can form a barrier to help retain skin moisture, the downside is that these waxes tend to build up and potentially cause blocked pores, plus they also prevent the penetration of the oil components of the cream. Remember, it is the oil component that provides significant skin benefits.

In comparison, when natural oils are applied to the skin, they are absorbed directly into the top layers of the epidermis. Here they immediately go to work to improve the lipid barrier function. Often you will see immediate results from the first application. After continual use of a few weeks the replenished lipid barrier will provide the skin with a noticeable healthy glow.

It is not a good idea to dab any oil you can find on your face. Look for oils that are made specifically for the face, otherwise you could end up with clogged pores.

It is best to use facial oils when the skin is damp, either just after washing your face or by using a face mist. Just a small amount of the oil is enough for good results.
