From farm to bottle.

Well, yes, in theory. But it’s not so easy.

Some background.

First, we have hydrosols. Made by distilling fresh flowers. And you left with two end-products.

First. The essential oil. This contains the oil-soluble constituents of the plant. Second, condensate water. This contains the water-soluble constituents. And microscopic droplets of the essential oil. This condensate water is what we call a hydrosol.

Importantly, because of the heat of distillation, preservatives are not required for hydrosols

Second, we have “Floral Waters.” Made by adding a small amount of essential oil to water. Usually less than 1%. The mixture is left for a few days and then essential oils are filtered off. And preservatives need to be added. These are “fake” hydrosols.

Now, the tale of three producers/suppliers we have had contact with.

The first. Produces genuine hydrosol. But their product is consistently contaminated with bacteria. This is due to dirty distillation. And poor handling of the condensate water.

The second supplier. They play funny games with their Certificates of Analysis (CoA). On analysis in our labs, what they are selling is in fact floral water. It contains synthetic preservatives. These cause skin irritations in some people.

Third, our current supplier is providing us with genuine, preservative free hydrosol.

So, what this means is that many brands and consumers are being duped into buying Floral Waters. And sell them as preservative free Hydrosols.

So, yes, our Organic Bulgarian Rose Hydration Mist. It’s farm to Indochine Natural bottle.
