What is SPF number mean?

Recently, Dr. Mike of Indochine Natural have involved in an evaluation for Sunscreen products for a Trading company in Penang.
From the product samples with Formulation sheet for 2 product SPF 30 and SPF 50, the SPF (sun protection factor) active ingredient in SPF 30 and SPF 50 were at the same percentage. You would have thought in SPF 50 lotion, the active ingredient should be more than in SPF 30 lotion?

In theory, SPF 50 will protect you from the sun 20 times more than SPF 30.
But Theory and Reality is totally different.

I found this article about Sunscreen on Environmental Working Group is very informative.

By the end of the day, limit your time on sunbathes, wearing beach hat and loose clothing while on the beach (this is not very SEXY but SAFE) ... these are all the safeties' ways to protect yourself from the sun.
